Collins. The FWC, during its three-day meeting on Duck Key, recognized Mrs. Collins for her significant contributions and sustained commitment to conservation law enforcement. FWC Chairman John Rood said Collins has been instrumental in assisting agency law enforcement personnel in protecting the unique and valuable fish and wildlife resources of the Florida Keys. "Mrs. Collins has handled hundreds of serious cases from arraignment through trial, including charges of possession of endangered crocodiles, illegal crawfish harvest and stone crab trap robbing, and major violations of fishery laws," Rood said. "She has been conspicuously successful in prosecuting habitual trap robbers. "She has used the latest in modern technology in her tenacious pursuit of justice, including DNA testing for species identification in a loggerhead sea turtle case, and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology in the successful prosecution of a vessel grant theft case," he said. Rood said the FWC also is grateful to Mrs. Collins for her extraordinary dedication and significant contributions to the agency's boating safety enforcement efforts in the Florida Keys. The Philadelphia native moved to Florida in 1974. She received her bachelor's degree in economics and her law degree from the University of Florida at Gainesville. She was a National Trial Team competitor in law school and later interned with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. She has served with the Monroe County State Attorney's Office since 1992. Her husband, Chuck Collins, is an FWC sergeant/investigator in the Keys. They reside in the upper Keys with their children, Rachel, 4; and Ryan, 6.
